12th September – Sarah Taylor, Oxfordshire’s High Sheriff

Sarah spoke about the history of the ‘shrievalty’ which goes back to Saxon times. Her appointment lasts for just one year and is entirely unpaid – she even has to pay for her ceremonial outfit.

5th September – John Harwood, Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire

John Harwood is the Lord Lieutenant’s number two and amongst other things, he is responsible for accompanying royal visits.

15th August – Greg Smith, Restorative Justice Development Manager for Oxfordshire

Greg spoke to us about the effectiveness of restorative justice in enabling perpetrators to understand the effect of their offending, and enabling victims to obtain some closure.

Angela’s business offers tutorials in cultural awareness, social, dining and business etiquette, elocution, and and she asked us the question ‘Do Manners Maketh Man?

1st August – John Chipperfield, the Oxford Mail & Times

John’s job at the Oxford Mail & Times started as a Saturday job when he was still at school. In his years with the paper he has accumulated many anecdotes, which he was kind enough to share with us. Don’t miss the one about the tonsils eaten by the family cat!
